Loving the discovery of so many more songs in your book. As well as being a wonderful storyteller, you’re also quite the poet….Wise and Holy Woman, The Boning Hall among so many. You’re able to shine light on the shadows and the shadowy in such an inspiring and empowering way. So grateful for that.
Would be great if you could post one of your recorded concerts here from time to time, for those of us too far away to see you performing real time. Or better yet, how about a live streaming concert? I’m sure you could charge to cover the costs and then some. Just a thought. Shine on.

Hi Christy. Thanks for the lovely reply. It was a bucket of nuts, read a paragraph, another bucket of nuts,read another paragraph…there were alot of paragraphs yesterday..the cattle were well fed i tell ya! I have 15 in the shed, some bred at home here and some purchased in Carnew mart last November. I have another 5 in an adjoining shed all home bred. The tractor is a beauty..Ford 6610, 1983 and my fathers 1963 Ford 4000(needs a bit of work)
I used to have a good few more stock but cut down in recent years as i was away alot..I’m trying to build it back up a little bit now..i love the stock and and keeps me feet on the ground..My 18 month old boy has no fear of them either. Your cover of John Spillane’s “Gortatagort” strike’s a chord with me, We have names on our fields also..The Bawn Field, The Flat Meadow, Kathy’s Garden, The Well Field, The Sawbench, The Car Road, The Park, The Sandhole and The River Field. Not to mention the names on the cows (when i had them but i wont go into that). You cant beat tea in the field when making the hay..

Ok…you’ve probably tuning to do on those new guitars of yours so thanks for asking for an insight into my shed..Santa brought me a Martin D15 last year…no pick-up but i do love it…the action needs a bit of adjusting but i’ll sort out the 4000 first..God bless you and yours.
How yeah Christy hope alls well with you great to read the Chat always enjoyable,your story of Barney reminds me of two things,first is the story of Barney being nervous before a flight and Ronnie tried to reassure him saying not to worry when your time is up your time is up, Barney’s reply was what if the Captains time is up, my father used to smoke Sweet Afton and sometimes if he was working out the field and had no matches one of us would be sent back to the house to light it sure you’d have to have a n odd drag of it to keep it lit on the way back I think it might be the reason i never took to smoking later, hope you have a good night in Castlebar sadly won’t be there the last time I brought the Massey there someone threw popcorn into the diesel tank by the time I got to Claremorris on the way home there was so much noise I turned left for Knock and did the night vigil have a good one face the puckout

I see from your photos with the Irish team that ye were using Martin Audio PA..I use the same myself although mine are about 13 years old…I like the look of yours though..Time for an upgrade me thinks. I have a Tak FP360..i bought it 12 years ago and i’m told it was 10 yers old then!! As you say ..”a workhorse of a guitar” Stay well..Tell Mick Divine i said hello.

Liam,I am intrigued by the image of you reading while feeding the cattle, I would love to see your description of the process…you cant have been shovelling nuts nor forking silage nor opening bales…Im way out of the farming loop so give us a glance into your cattle shed….my only memory of the PA at the squad gig was that it did not work very well…the old Taks are sound, the new ones not so..I’ll be seeing MD on the road to Castlebar come Sat…Up The Model
Christy the chat is so much more than a chat. The RFH gigs were on fire! Whilst I know this hallowed portal is about songs and music and embellishments and arrangements……but did you hear esteemed Cathal Holland on Sin E last night. Man he was swearing and feckin this and that. All my bodily parts were curling. He was so funny. I was writing a case study on sexual violence for a course I’m doing and the big girl shouts down the stairs that I must seriously lack empathy if the subject matter is causing me to guffaw like a flushing toilet. xx

Bonsoir, Christy. Thank you for the chat, which I read just after having watched one of your DVDs. That was great. We’re taking a trip to Roscoff on Friday and even if the sea is rough, we’ll be happy to drive from Cork to Derry – first time there- spend a few days with the Kingdom Star and other friends and go to your gigs. The atmosphere in France is stifling and heavy at the moment since the election day and I really need a lot of music and good songs and friends to help me keep my spirits high … I know I’ll find what I’m looking for in Ireland . Back Home in Derry…Bobby Sands ( IMRO Ireland) is all that is required …no plans to fly anywhere…very busy here Liam…I like the two way connect here…we hope to do a gig on the net …
My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed the gig at Newcastle City Hall earlier this month.
We have a colleague based in Cork and for years he has been saying we can use his holiday cottage in Goleen near Cork but we have never got around to it until now.
We will be driving across to be on holiday there this year from 9th – 19th June so unfortunately will miss the gig at the Marquee……….however.
We have to come back home, there is no choice but we have decided to fly back out on the Friday 22nd for the weekend.
Our colleague and his wife (Andrew & Dorothy) had tickets and have now got some for us too. We think it will be too good an opportunity to miss being able to see you and Declan perform in Cork, we can’t wait.
We will spend the weekend with them at their home and explore Cork before the gig and as we do not fly back until the Sunday evening we will also have that day mostly free to look around.
This will be my first visit to Ireland and fully expect to fall in love with the place and want to return often.
Looking forward to 23rd June.

It is so good to read your thoughts and information regarding each individual song on the setlist for the first night at the Festival Hall…..both nights were brill 🙂 Although my home is roughly 60 miles from the Southbank I only have to cross one small road (in the vicinity of my house) in order to reach the Festival Hall by public transport….quite amazing, that, really. Every good wish to yourself and Declan.

must admit that I love the RFH, the Southbank, that great City,the dirty old River,its walks, Galleries, Bridges and ,of course, the great gaggle of listeners that gather in lieu of song
The chat was even better than normal Christy, totally immersive. You paint a fine picture and your brush doesn’t appear to be losing any bristles with age. A calling in the literary world is worth considering, should the ould guitar ever feel too heavy. By the way, I think you’re long overdue issuing another live album. One of those two hour ten minute monsters on a double CD would go down a treat with the faithful. Do you record many or any of your gigs just in case the mood takes you? You surely would if only for your own private use! I’ve often thought of sneaking the old camcorder into to one of the many gigs I’ve been to see you at but the thought of being thrown out in front a couple of thousand people keeps me on the straight and narrow.

you will be surpried to learn that we record all our gigs…its getting to listen to them is the problem…its always preferable to be playing then re listening…I need to rehearse for whats ahead…there are literally hundreds of gigs recorded….I’d say film away
Enjoyed reading the new chat, it was good to read that the old Mail boats are back in service again.
I have heard a rumour that Northern Ireland is going to ban the use of Honda 50s starting from may 1st, even singing about them will be prohibited as it can cause nausea to some listeners.

Thank you for the wonderful chat. Brought back RFH on April 4 … some sympathy with Butterfly but not with ‘yer men’ in the suits in the box … these guys would be thrown out of a pub. Each to his own but most of us pay to listen to the music.
That apart it was a great night. It was good to hear Gortnatagart … you have written more eloquently about this song and its emotional attachment than I ever could. Anyone growing up in ireland at a certain time can identify with those pre tiger days and the simplicity of life. John Spillane captures it all so well in music and powerful lyrics … so evocative and emotional.
It is always an uplifting experience to be at a gig and we hope that you will slip in one or two Irish gigs in the summer. Have you ever heard of the annual Phil Murphy Weekend in Carrig on Bannow? Suffering a little from reduced sponsorship … like us all! It’s a great place for involving younger people in our musical heritage.
Rest on the laurels of the UK tour and don’t forget to dust down the bodhran if you want to come to work ….thank you for the music.

I enjoy writing these chats…dont know how many people read them…but it keeps my hand in, allows me to reflect upon the work , something which I never did in this way before….in my day to day life I seldom encounter anyone who is absorbed in the songs as I am…these past years, through this medium,I have met up with a small number of listeners who embrace the work and hold it close to their hearts…the primary purpose in setting up the site was to communicate and that purpose is often fulfilled
