Absolutely wonderful Chat Christy – as always. Your writing has a certain poetry to it and just flows off the page – totally evocative and captivating. There is a book in those chats – and one hidden in the little memories of past years that appear in between – though i know that is a time consuming task. Maybe someday, but for now the chats will suffice. The buzz from reading of those gigs has now whetted the appetite for the Derry gigs more than ever – thank God we’re nearly there. Sounds like you’ve had a great trip over the water and deserve a well-earned rest. We’re ever hopeful that Brighton will appear on the gigs list some time soon. Tallulah’s primed for another review. well Christy finally got started on bodhran lessons at comhaltas monkstown..5 weeks now 🙂 got myself a new bodhran and stick to suit me too and was as happy as larry wen i got them….played at two sessions too, was shaking but glad i got up (jst for 1 song)…
Christy, was at the Friday night show after finally arriving home from working in Germany. Agree with Hilary, an electric performance. The Billy Grey duet with Dec was captivating. Thanks for Wally’s “16 Fishermen” near the end. A special night.

since recording this gem 4 years ago we have only performed it live 3 times so its a rare event for Declan and I… it is the air of the night that always decides so we’ll just have to wait and see…welcome home Gary, dont get sidetracked into any of them alehouses betwixt Strandhill and Castlebar….its a thirsty road

You are my legend and have been since i was young..listening to yr music while doing my homework under my Fathers great choice in music..right up until he died when i was 13…Now..Im 32…And i love you more now, as much as i did back then. Calling my son Christy, who is now 5. I know you have to play yr new songs..But i ask you please could you make a request….for the Ballycastle, co. Antrim crew……for ‘Black is the colour’….an very true favourite of mine…..which i will more then likely cry too…ha. Also, I wanted to know the last time…and still do….How the hell can i get a picture with you!!! A true dream and honour that wld be treasured, framed….and held onto for my son…in many generations passed….ha…xxxxxxxxx

Two great nights in Charleville and some selection of songs,,, Billy Grey appeared both nights,,,, Lakes of Ponchartrain on Fri….. on Sat Ballydine rang out in the Rebel evening as did a 2nd public outing of Four Strong Winds,,,,great energy,,,, great playing and good Listeners,,,, mostly…. Lovely version of Four Strong Winds, I like to play it that way meself, slowed down a wee bit. Great version of Neil doing it with a stage full, 12 acoustics in all, great song. He tells a story of travelling miles to nearest jukebox a few towns away and spending all his money listening over and over to it…thats what a great song will do I suppose. I hope all is well…just thinkin, its just gone 3 years since the mighty Duke of Spring was here…here’s to Doug, the groover from Vancouver.

I’ve asked you a few times to sing Butterfly when you come to the Glasgow Concert Hall in November – I’ll probably remind you again a few times! I hope you feel able to sing it on the night, I’ll be the one crying in the audience.

just pressing my keks , I’ve rinsed the sox, burned the jox…getting ready for night 2 in Charleville…had a right one last night, great singing audience….Eoin came from Sydney, John from NewYork and they both got a great welcome from a lovely audience…Had Dermot Gavin in today trimming my eyebrows and re-arranging our floral arrangements
A great suggestion. If It Be Your Will is in my top 3 Leonard songs. The man is a living legend, who exudes humility. I was honoured to see him in concert in 2009, a spiritual experience.

“first we took Mountbellew, then we took Elphin”…one of a number of Leonard’s song I have strummed over the decades. Hearing him in Kilmainham, Dublin 3 years ago was a high point and a longtime wished for experience….the songs we love are not always the songs that we can sing….thank you all for considering and suggesting songs for me to sing…every now and then a pointer such as yours sets me on my way…songs like Allende, Away you Broken Heart, Burning Times, How Long, Ordinary Man and Does this Train Stop on Merseyside all came to me as suggestions from you listeners…..last night here in Charleville, County Cork, I got a call out for Shine On You Crazy Diamond but I did not have the confidence to try it out..regrets to the caller, twas a noble shout
