I suspect that club was long after my day…I visited a Folk Club there in earlier era
I should add that the cafe was supposed to get part of government grant, but, apparently the grant’s smaller this year so it had to be cut from CONTACT’s (the community group that funds it) budget.
Just saw a video of you singing In Zurich at Occupy Dame Street. Definitely a song I’m going to learn this summer.
As a young person the world sometimes makes my angry and sad but your music reminds me that there are good people still. “The Youth Center closing down” part made me instantly think of a non-profit cafe I used to volunteer for, until it closed down at the end of March; they didn’t have enough money (but the Canadian government still wants more prisons even though crime is down, to buy fighter jets and give good minions *cough* *cough* sorry, MP’s, huge, early pensions). The place was called The Blue Frog cafe, we had jam nights and a community board and sustainable sourcing, Local artists, most of whom were my friends got to put their paintings and photography and whatever else they made up and sell them in exchange for volunteering. It was a place for everyone but mostly young people converged there. It made work and and my parents bearable. Thanks again for your music.

Christy – was at the Newcastle gig – first time since Dublin 2002! Great gig and i thought you lifted the audience wonderfully well. Brought my daughter, Caoimhe (aged 7 and a half) – she stayed the distance, was desperate for the Honda 50 but was buzzing all the way back down the A1 to Darlo. We’re saving for York in November – by which stage Ulster will the Euro Champs!!!!

We came to see you at the City Hall in Newcastle last night. My cousin (Jill) and Aunty Elaine had emailed you asking to play The Voyage; we played it at my Dad’s funeral and it means a great deal to our family. Thank you so much for playing it and mentioning us. It was a real joy to hear it live.
Hi Christy, Hope you made it back safely over the pond. Thanx for a great night at the Liverpool Philharmonic…. I loved the venue, was sat up in one of the boxes with my mate Mark, we felt a wee bit like Statler and Waldorf (from the Muppets) only not as grumpy and certainly not as critical…LOL ! Loved the set as well, numerous highlights…..Does This Train… Little Musgrave….Morecome Bay and of course Four Strong Winds. Enjoyed Declan’s contribution (as always) wishing him well with the new album…I always knew that kid was gonna Make It…LOL !….The visit to Anfield went OK as well, the RedMen are struggling big time at the moment, King Kenny’s days might just be numbered I’m afraid. All in all though a great weekend on Merseyside, and thanx again for another special gig. CYA in Derry…. Love & Respect Martin Mac !

yes Christy I did hear of Fitzgeralds, but that was before my time, We moved to Kilmeague from Dublin in ’73, so I was very young. It’s hard to explain to people now what life was like there at the time, but back the,n there was no mains water, so we used to go down to the water pump opposite the Traveller Rest whilst we were building the house, it was very rural then. Nancy Quinn ran the pub in Kilmeague with an iron rod & the bus to Dublin came once a week. Like you I’m sure, I treasure my childhood spent there, (my parents are still there) and I will always have a gra for the place.
I hope it won’t be too long before we see you in these parts again, really enjoyed the gig and so did the Wife who’s from these parts.

Had a few good sessions in Mulrennans way back. As a small boy I can remember going to Fitzgeralds Forge to get horses shod, Im talking early 50s here…later as a teenager I used to sing in Frank Kellys of The Lock in Milltown and often called into Nancy Quinns for refreshments on the long haul out to Prosperous..coming around the Hill of Allen was thirsty work for the balladeers…greetings to your parents, they must be nearly locals now after 40 years in the short grass…

Haven’t seen Christy live in 25 years. Was really looking forward to this and took some of my boys who have grown up with his music. Was it me or was it a strange atmosphere at the concert. First I felt the ticket price was slightly too high. I felt there should have been more people there considering it was CHRISTY MOORE!. He should have had a break so everyone would time themselves to the loo at the break rather than disturb everyone else, intermittently during the set. I felt the front were [dare I say it] – very reserved. One of my boys called them too posh!.. I felt even Christy noticed this by saying the Newcastle audience were “good listeners”. True his opening songs, which I loved, were quite slow but when he mentioned about singing more drinking songs. I felt he was trying to ‘wake’ the audience up. I enjoyed the set and the selection of songs and considering the amount in his repertoire, he had to leave some classics out. As someone from Derry, I was disappointed he never sang “back home in Derry” but yet I read that he sang it in Liverpool. In all I enjoyed the night. I see he is in Glasgow and Edinburgh later this year, think I’ll try him there. I noticed someone apologised for the shouting during the set, and someone shouted ‘shut-up” which may put Christy back a bit. But he soldiered on and it was soon passed by. He’s been there, seen it, done it…..a bit of craic from the audience, having a good time is just what he wants. Hope he comes back soon! – Oh and fairplay to Declan, excellent back-up. Hope he does well on his own.

Fair enough NK.Have to say that Declan and I really enjoyed the gig…we thought the audience and atmosphere were exceptionally good….I have not taken a break in a gig for over 20 years….I like to get out there and get the gig going and then stick with it…I did intervals earlier on in my life but this way works best. I had no problems with gig at all….if its non-posh you’re after give Barrowland a birl….wear sturdy boots and be ready to dance…I love singing Back Home but with new songs coming on all the time somethin has to give way….that Musgrave usually knocks two or three off the edge
Great gig @ Newcastle last Night Christy, for an hour and a half I was back in Dowlings in Prosperous in 1983 where I first saw you live. ( I grew up in Kilmeague) I was hoping for “Fr Michael Hayes” but whatever, yourself & Declan go well together.
