Christy – Great gig at Leeds last Sunday, there with my two daughters who are great fans as well. You mentioned that you had details of your gigs in the late 60s. If so I don’t know whether you have details of a gig at Wakefield, at the Green Dragon if I remember, in 1969 or 1970. We went with some friends and we won the raffle, much to the consternation of the locals who went every week, the prize being the LP ‘Paddy on the Road’. Played so much it crackles!! hey Clive, me and my big mouth.! I have the diaries back home but where they are may be a problem…I keep meaning to get them out and load up all the old dates..( the things we do instead of going to the pub!)…..may take a while ( another 40 years maybe !) ps and I do recall The Green Dragon in Wakefield, not distinctly ( was it Webster’s) but I do recall a few faces
Having heard you at The Folk Awards and on Radio 4 felt I had to hear more. You certainly did not disappoint, a superb concert, you brought a great mix of humour and melancholic lyrics, which moved me. All that was missing was stout and strong whiskey [had to wait until I got home and played the CD]. Thanks again ’till the next time.

Just wanted to say a huge thanks for a great show in Leeds last sunday (01.04.12). My sister and I started coming to see you first when I was about 10 I think. We were both there last Sunday… I’m now 32! As always, we had a terrific time. The songs you sing are like old friends. Thank you x

Thank you for a great set on Thursday at the RFH and thanks for playing Farmer Michael Hayes for my Dad . Hearing the song live i started to understand the story better . Your songs are like mini history lessons .and after football and rugby History is my favourite subject .
See you on the road probably on my Honda 50 .Hopefully York or Glasgow .but will get fined if not in half term ! My birthday is when you play in Sterling .

Several family members coming to see you at Newcastle City Hall tomorrow evening. Please, please, please could you sing The Voyage. Saw you at The Sage last year and disappointed we didn’t hear it (although we hadn’t requested it). It’s very sentimental to us, in memory of my dad’s brother Alan who died three years ago and was a fan of yours. In the audience tomorrow night will be Alan’s wife Linda, his daughter Alison, his brothers Ken and John as well as other family members. I know they would love to hear the song live – please fit it in if you can. Thank you x

I live the songs,…….. still draw blanks occasionally, some nights I’m singing a song and I can feel a blank coming down the line, just feel it coming…..sometimes the line or the word appears right on the cusp of the moment, more nights I’m left in a flounder
Hi Christy , top night at the RFH yesterday evening mate, you and Declan were magical , me and me Mrs had a ball . Got to hear you sing Black is the Colour without me shouting out for a request like a lunatic . I’m off to Waterford on Wednesday and will be making them all jealous when I tell I saw you .

The late great Barney McKenna sure made sure that the music kept our spirits high. For me he was one part of the greatest ballad group that I have ever heard. I remember my late father playing their records and explaining to me the stories of the songs.This would have been mid 60s and I would have been 8,9,10. I would make him tell me those stories over and over and play the songs again and again and the poor man always did. It instilled in me a love of music, lyrics, poetry and stories that the rote system of school failed to do. Barney McKenna you are missed in my home….RyanL

those early Dubliners recordings were so exciting….I can still recall hearing them live for the first time, circa 1963-4 in The Royal in Howth…it was inspirational….saw Barney play just 6 weeks ago….he was still immersed in his music

Hi Christy, Glad to see & hear the UK tour is going well…Rave reviews from the RFH, Enjoyed that gig last year (it was memorable to say the least). Just dug out my ould Liverpool scarf so I’m ready for the off to Merseyside…..A few people have said to me that I mightn’t get much of a game but at least I’m guarnteed a good gig…LOL ! Looking forward to both in any event, the atmosphere is always electric at Anfield and its never to bad at your shows either. Best of luck at the Philharmonic, will be with you in spirit all the way…You’ll Never Walk Alone !! Love & Respect Martin Mac

for me, part of the buzz of going to the ground of a great Football club is getting in early, watching the fans assemble, the teams warm up, spotting the older players,eavesdropping, I have been to Anfield maybe 5 times since 1966 most recently in 1996 but I do zone in every second week of the season from the comfort of my couch MOTD is a must for me… ( I saw Tony Hately nod in a hat trick for the Reds in Craven Cottage circa 1966, I was a Fulham regular then attracted there by Johnny Haynes, Jimmy Conway and Tony Mancini…..as for The Philharmonic, its one of those special halls, with history and character and a long list of appearances there by artists from many genres, but what makes it always special is the audience that congregate there..always a great auld buzz from the Scousers…going right back to my first gig in Jackie and Bridie’s club here in 1967 I have always felt at home in the confines of this grand city…have a good trip comrade and keep coming back
